One of the fun things we do as part of our Philadelphia magazine’s Design Home 2016 duties as the Interior Designers is pick out all the countertop materials. Our countertop sponsor is and has been Colonial Marble & Granite in King of Prussia for many Design Homes. We have had a long standing relationship with Colonial and find their selection unparalleled in our area.
We love to go see and select the stone slabs and this year with the developer and his design team we had a lot of fun selecting no less than ten varied and not often seen stones for use throughout the house. We had to select materials for 5 full baths, 2 powder rooms, 2 bars and 2 kitchens and used stone countertops in all but one of these spaces. (In one powder room we used a concrete counter top with integral sink.)
We spent an initial four hours at Colonial Marble & Granite selecting 10 stones, that averages 24 minutes per stone. That is unheard of! Yet we wanted the selection to be unique so we really thought it through. One of the main goals of Design Home is to inspire the homeowner and give them ideas, therefore we ourselves look for new things and we try to never repeat what’s been done in Design Home before.
