Happy 2019! It’s finally the new year and the last of the holiday decor has been put away. But now that all the cheery ornaments are gone, what next? Here are some interior design tips on how to bring a little extra life in your home after the holiday festivities are over.
Out With the Old
“Does it spark joy?”
You may have already binge-watched all eight episodes of the Netflix series, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. Cleaning and decluttering are often at the top of many resolution lists, and you’d be amazed how getting rid of a few items can free up your space. This could mean ridding your kitchen of all tupperware containers without a lid or donating those large pieces of furniture that aren’t truly matching your style.

Remix Existing Decor
Another way to refresh your home is by repurposing your existing decor. Do you have a rug in a room that you’re not totally in love with? Try putting it in a different room! Or dust off any furnishings that are in storage and find a place for them. Rearranging furniture in an existing room for better feng shui can also help give your home a new look without spending a dime.

Change Up Accents
There are a lot of opportunities for finishing touches that will help you add character to your home. Accent pillows are a great way to incorporate pops of color and pattern in your seating area, and the right lighting fixtures can create a new ambiance to any room. Drawer handles, door knobs, and other hardware pieces are little touches to help your home make a statement.

A Fresh Coat of Paint
Paint is such an easy and inexpensive way to turn an old home into a new one. There are so many possibilities! Turn a plain wall into an accent wall
by painting it a vibrant color or choose a new color for your front door. You could also consider painting furniture, including kitchen cabinets, bedroom dressers, and dining room chairs, to transform the look of each room and add to the personality of your home.
Show off your style and taste with your favorite photographs, paintings, designs, and even houseplants. Believe it or not, studies have shown that having art and plants in the home can improve moods and decrease stress. If you don’t have a green thumb, look for succulents, low-light houseplants, or fake flowers and plants to bring that extra life into your home.
