We’ve talked about how downsizing and small space living continue to trend across all demographics. But living in a home with a smaller footprint does not mean our clients are any less festive! Even if you don’t have the space for a full-sized Christmas tree, here are ways to still bring Christmas cheer into your home. Read on for more alternative Christmas tree ideas.
Alternative Christmas Trees
You’ve downsized on your home, so why not your tree, too? If live trees are a tradition in your home, you can still pick out a smaller tree from your local Christmas tree farm and decorate it as normal. Artificial trees are also made in numerous sizes, from full-sized to mini tabletop displays. There are also plentiful tree alternatives, including vine cones or bottle brush tree displays. These are easy to set up without needing extra ornaments or lights and are easy to put away after the holidays are over without taking up too much space.
If just one small tree isn’t quite decorative enough, try a variety of mini-trees or tree alternatives around your home. Place them on your fireplace mantel, a tabletop, or even right outside your doorway.
Other Decorative Greenery
There are many different types of greenery that can be used in lieu of an actual fir, pine, or spruce tree. Decorate a small pine shrub with mini-lights and ribbon as a dinner table centerpiece. Wreaths and garlands are also an elegant way to bring in Christmas greenery without too much fuss. Consider fresh, dried, or even preserved wreaths, which can be made of a variety of materials, including evergreen, eucalyptus, rosemary, cedar, and magnolia. You can also find them with various winter flowers or other accents like berries and pinecones.
More Decor Ideas
Not everyone wants to deck the halls out too much, especially if it’s only going to be up for just a couple of months or if you’re going to be away from home during the holidays. So how can one bring in holiday joy to the home without going overboard?
Forego the tree altogether and simply hang some string lights around your home for that special Christmas ambiance. You can also hang up your favorite ornaments on a garland, ribbon, or command hooks. Layering candles of different sizes and colors is another classy and minimal way to bring that holiday elegance in your home.
