High Point Market Trends: Curved Sectionals

Twice a year, buyers from around the world come to High Point Market to see beautifully designed showrooms and exhibits. Buyers come to High Point to see the most innovative new products, see the trends as they happen, and experience the vision and excitement of this incredible industry.

High Point Market features an amazing 12.2 million square feet of showroom and exhibit space and 2,000 manufacturers in multiple buildings in downtown High Point, making it by far the world’s largest home furnishings market. Each Market attracts more than 75,000 industry professionals who come to buy, learn, and network with thought-leaders, trend-setters, and industry experts providing an abundance of products and fresh ideas.

Why curved?

Some trends are subtle. Others are obvious, and we obviously noticed the introduction of curved sectionals and sofas at High Point Market. Almost every upholstery manufacturer was introducing a curved sectional!

A curved sofa or sectional adds drama to a room. The curve is an excellent shape for style and not boxy or rigid like some sectionals can be. It can be great for traffic flow, as it has no awkward corners. The curved sectionals and sofas feel lighter in the space. They are also great for conversation because everyone can see each other. Add a very large cocktail table and one can get a lot of drama and look with just two pieces of furniture.

The drawback is that curved sectionals and sofas want to float in a room, not be placed against a wall. With the open plan home being so popular now, that may not be a problem for many, but if you have an older home with smaller rooms and you cannot float a curved sectional consider a rectangular one, because a curved sectional does not look good against a wall.
