Gold is so hot lately! Not just at the Oscars but in interior design as well. We first reported on this trend in 2014 and the trend is continuing to grow and become more mainstream. We do not mean 24 carat gold. That is reserved for the truly extravagant and wealthy. We mean gold finishes and colors.
Gold finishes are really hot right now and are literally showing up everywhere; in interior design, fashion design, and industrial design. In interior design we see gold in lighting, plumbing, furniture, hardware, accessories, mirrors, fabrics and wallpapers. It’s literally available in anything you could want.
Some might think gold is garish, but used correctly and in the right amount it can be very dramatic and elegant with few rivals for creating a truly luxurious looking interior. Once reserved for royalty and the very wealthy, gold is now becoming a look for everyone. Gold in interior design has been cherished for thousands of years and appears throughout history, as in the Renaissance, ancient Rome and ancient Egypt.
Gold has many characteristics which make it so popular and so versatile. Here are a few:
· Rich depth of finish that is not achievable with paint
· Warm tones that are easy to use in interiors and easy to live with
· Shine and glitter which add sparkle and drama to interiors
· Longevity that won’t go out of style quickly due to its classic nature
Don’t be afraid to try a little gold in your interior. If you are nervous begin with a gold accessory or gold framed mirror, in other words things that are easily changed. Have fun playing with gold!
