The holidays are fast approaching! This year, you might be excited to be able to get together with close friends and family to celebrate. As a host, there are a lot of things to think about. Let’s start with the setting and ambiance. A clean home not only makes it more comfortable for your guests but also makes it easier for you to host! When everything is clean and organized, you can have peace of mind that everything is in its place. While it still may seem a bit early, it’s never too early to start preparing. Here are some tips to keep your home in great shape as the whirlwind of the holidays approaches.
Wash Your Throw Pillows
Refreshen your throw pillow covers and inserts by throwing them in the wash. Then, put them in the dryer to fluff those inserts right back up like when they were brand new. Having your pillows on your sofa smelling clean, your guests will appreciate the coziness they add.
Deep Clean Your Dishwasher
So much cooking and baking start happening in the fall, but with all those yummy recipes come extra dirty dishes. Make sure you give your dishwasher a deep cleaning by rinsing the filter, giving the inside a good scrub, and then adding some rinse aid. Those steps will keep your dishwasher running smoothly and ready to take on all the additional work it does after entertaining.
Clean Out Your Refrigerator
Where will your side dishes and desserts go if your fridge is crammed with old condiments you don’t use anymore? Go through everything in the fridge and make sure you toss anything that is expired to make room for all those fall goodies. Then make sure to give it a thorough wipe down. Now you’re ready to store Aunt Beth’s famous casserole until it’s time to reheat it in the oven.
Organize and Restock Your Spices
The use of cinnamon and pumpkin spice amps up in the fall. But sometimes, you might notice it runs out just when you need to use it! Putting your spices in alphabetical order will make them easier to find too. Restock and organize all your spices early this fall so that you have everything on hand and ready as you need it.
Water Your Plants
You might be that person that is on top of watering your plants and they are thriving. But for the rest of us, now is the time to give your plants some attention before your guests come over. Pick off any fallen leaves out of the planter and then bring your plants in the shower. Spray down your plants with a shower head to rinse off dust and let them have a good drink! Leave them in the shower to drain for a bit before putting them back where they belong. And if you’re not quite a live-plant person, there are plenty of festive faux arrangements available to choose from!
